"Cytonuclear Interactions in the Wake of Genome Doubling" Friday, February 19, 2021, 12:10 – 1pm |
Location of Event:Other Cost:Free Contact Email:arphillips@ucdavis.edu Event Type:Free Events, Lectures and Seminars Presented by:College of Biological Sciences Sponsored by:Plant Biology Graduate Group Speaker: Joel Sharbrough, Assistant Professor, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology I am an evolutionary biologist interested in the (co)evolution of genomes and their emergent cellular and organismal phenotypes, especially in the context of eukaryotic energy production. I am originally from Lake Tahoe, CA, but moved to the Midwest to attend the University of Notre Dame for my undergraduate studies. I attended the University of Iowa for graduate school, located in Iowa City, IA. There I was mentored by Dr. Maurine Neiman investigating the evolutionary maintenance of sexual reproduction. I became a postdoctoral scholar with Dr. Dan Sloan at Colorado State University, where I studied cytonuclear interactions of allopolyploids in collaboration with Dr. Jonathan Wendel. I recently accepted a faculty position in the Biology Department at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, NM, and am looking for grad students/postdocs to study cytonuclear interactions of plants to start in 2021-2022. I am an avid skier and hiker, and especially enjoy spending time in the outdoors with my family. Via Zoom - ucdavis.zoom.us… |
