Location of Event:Other
Cost:Free
Event Type:Arts and Entertainment
Presented by:Department of Theatre and Dance

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents a unique retelling of Sophocles' Antigone. Student actors in isolation around the world, including undergraduate Mayuko Agari, pictured in Tokyo, recorded their parts on phone, iPad and video — and the footage has been edited into a recording about 20 minutes long that will loop for 24 hours: 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday (May 23). An online discussion is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The play features a culturally diverse ensemble of female-identifying actors who will evoke the breadth of the character Antigone’s defiance against devastating loss: the inability to touch or bury the body of her dead brother.

RSVPs required; emails will go out May 22 telling how to access the film.
