Each month, Professor Jared Shaw with the UC Davis Department of Chemistry hosts the Davis Science Café, featuring scientists who are studying some of today’s cutting edge topics. This month’s guest is Professor Diane Beckles from the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences, who studies how environmental factors impact tomato quality and yield. Her talk will examine the lowly ‘store-bought’ tomato and the multitude of factors that determine its flavor on your plate. She will also make the case that biotechnology, specifically gene editing, could create a superior tomato with a lighter environmental footprint.
