You "owl" come to meet Wes and Ash, the center's newest western screech owl ambassadors. They may be small, especially in comparison to great horned owls Luna and Forrest but they are a hoot to watch. You can also get an up-close look at many of the center's other resident ambassador birds, on the glove, that is, held by volunteers (who can also answer your questions).

More on the owl theme: Hear from representatives of the Yolo County-based Burrowing Owl Preservation Society, the raptor center's invited guest for this open house. And, if you're 21 or older, you can try samples from Super Owl Brewing of Davis. Woodstock's Pizza will have samples, too. (Beer and pizza, noon-2 p.m.)

Hawk Walk at 8 a.m. (meet at the gate and bring binoculars). Open house begins at 9. Special presentations at 10 a.m. and noon on fascinating features of raptor biology and ecology.
