"Libel and Invasion of Privacy in the Internet Age"

Without much fanfare, courts, legislatures, and online companies such as Google have been adapting the law of libel and invasion of privacy to the Internet era – and the adaptations are surprising. Criminal libel law, long thought to be largely dead, has survived in some states and is being revived in others. Invasions of privacy, long thought to be a matter for the civil liability system, are becoming criminalized. Injunctions in libel cases, long thought to be unconstitutional, are now routine. Google and other companies are removing material from the Internet based on court orders, which has yielded shocking examples of outright forgeries and frauds aimed at manipulating the system.
