Tidal Response: Coastal Marine Environments from Above and Below, featuring the works of seven artists, including two UC Davis retirees.

  • Peter Connors, research ecologist for 15 years and manager of the Bodega Marine Reserve for 20 years — algae pressing (pictured)
  • Chris Dewees, marine fisheries specialist in Cooperative Extension for 35 years — “gyotaku” (Japanese fish printing)
Events during the run of the exhibition, Aug. 19-Oct. 21, include:
  • Opening reception — 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19. Free admission.
  • “Constructive Collisions: Art, Science and the Environment” — Panel discussion with Connors as one of the panelists. $18. 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12. 
  • “The Art of Japanese Fish Printing” — Dewees will demonstrate this art and read from his new book, A Life Among Fishes: The Art of Gyotaku, and sign copies of the book, which will be available for purchase. The program is free with arts center admission. 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 (the exhibition's closing day).
Petaluma Arts Center regular hours: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Admission: $5 general, $4 senior, student, teacher, military.
