Speaker: Jim Welch is from the Elizabeth R. Griffin Research Foundation, which studies and promotes biosafety, with an original mission to reduce the risk of zoonotic diseases among people who work with animals, and over time expanding to biomedical research in general and health care.

"Elizabeth's Story" is about Elizabeth Griffin (pictured), the nonprofit foundation's namesake, who died in 1997 as a result of an ocular exposure to a macaque (monkey) virus. The exposure occurred at Emory University's Yerkes National Primate Research Center, where she was employed in primate research.
