Castelfranco Lecture: "'This is [a Woman] Who Likes to Eat!': Gender, Power, Religion, and Disobedient Bodies"

Michelle Lelwica highlights how female thinness is associated with social privilege and exposes the patriarchal religious narratives embedded in the pursuit of a “good” body. The lecture encourages everyone whose body refuses to be “perfect” to embrace and enjoy their physical idiosyncrasies and to make critical thinking about narrow body norms part of their daily spiritual practice.

Dr. Lelwica is a professor of religion at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she teaches courses on the intersection of religion, gender, culture and the body. She completed her master's and doctoral degrees at Harvard Divinity School.

Dr. Lelwica is featured as part of the Paul A. and Marie Castelfranco Lecture Series.
