Breastfeeding Week/Month: "Restoring the Infant Gut Microbiome"

Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week for a Month!

A conversation with Jennifer Smilowitz, researcher and associate director, UC Davis Foods for Health Institute, discussing the dramatic decline of good bacteria in the gut microbiome of infants — bacteria that infants need in the first six months of life, bacteria that has been lost over the last 100 years, perhaps a result of the unintended consequences of medical practices, and how “we were able to successfully restore the infant gut microbiome of breastfed infants with the supplementation of B. infantis, an important bacteria that has been lost over the generations.” Free parking at the Center for Mind and Brain.

Smilowitz will present this same program from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in a Community Science Café, Old Soul @ 40 Acres coffeehouse, 3434 Broadway, Sacramento. See separate listing.

World Breastfeeding Week runs from Aug. 1 to 7 — but programs at UC Davis are being held from July 23 to Aug. 30. All programs are open to the campus and greater community. See the complete schedule here.
